Superior Disposal Recycling Guidelines

Superior Disposal has asked us to publish these guidelines for everyone’s information. Please contact Superior if you have any questions – the HOA is just passing this information along.

RECYCLING INFORMATION

Unlike trash limitations, extra recycle that doesn’t fit in your cart will be picked up without overage stickers or additional charges.  We are not able to take large cardboard boxes unless they are broken down into manageable pieces. Please flatten small boxes and cut large boxes into approximately 2’ x 2’ sections and tie pieces securely with string or twine.  This will allow our drivers to empty your full cart, reload with the extra recycling and dump again.

Allowable items for recycle:

  • Cardboard boxes (provided they are set out in compliance with above requirements)
  • Carrier Stock (soft drink packaging)
  • Chipboard  (Single-layer “cardboard” such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes, paper roll tubes etc…)
  • Newspaper and advertising inserts.
  • Magazines
  • Envelopes, junk mail, notebook papers, file folders, catalogs, phone books, office papers etc…
  • Aluminum cans (pop cans)
  • Steel (tin) cans (soup cans)
  • All plastics #1 through #7- including plastic lids, yogurt and butter containers, toys (with metal parts removed).

We cannot accept:

  • Glass
  • Automotive/chemical bottles
  • Vitamin or prescription containers
  • Styrofoam

Tidy Town

Tidy Town is coming!

Heads up! Tidy Town is around the corner, and Shawnee has changed the rules this year!

Tidy Town will occur on 3 days this year – Shawnee has added a third date for western Shawnee, May 13th. This applies to everyone west of I-435.

Also – the amount of large items being picked up has been limited to 5 large items. These are the guidelines provided by the city:

You will be able to set out five big items on the curb. Types of items include the following:

  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Appliances – check with hauler about quantity and types
  • Push lawn mowers with no fuel or oil
  • Up to 4 foot rolls of carpet that are securely tied and weigh less than 50 pounds. Two rolls will count as one item.

Garage Sales, Fences, and more

Garage Sales:

We have had several people ask when the next garage sale will be. We are still discussing this, and will let everyone know here and on our Facebook page.

Fences:

A lot of the fences in our subdivision were built around the same time as the houses themselves, which means many of our fences are approaching 20 years old! We are starting to see some fences fall into disrepair. Please remember that you are responsible for keeping your fence in good condition.

Thefts

As some of you may or may not know, Oakmont and many of the surrounding subdivisions have been experiencing small/petty thefts in the past few months. Among other things, thieves are stealing from unlocked cars, garage doors left open, or breaking into cars with valuables in plain sight. Please make sure you lock your cars, hide all valuables, and shut your garage doors! If you see any suspicious activity, please call the Shawnee Police at 911 or (913) 631-2150 (non emergency dispatch).

HOA Phone Number

The HOA phone number has changed! Going forward, please use 913-777-HOA7 or 913-777-4627. You can call or text this number. As always, you can also email us at OakmontHomesAssociation@gmail.com, leave a comment on our site, or leave a comment on our Facebook page.

HOA Dues:

We will be sending out a reminder letter in November to remind all residents that the HOA dues of $265 are due January 15th, 2017. You can mail us a check, or pay online with a credit/debit card. Please note that online payments have a $5 surcharge due to the costs of card processing. The total owed if paying online is $270.

December HOA Meeting

The next HOA meeting will be December 8th at 7:00 PM. The location is still to be determined, but will be posted here once finalized. Remember, the HOA meetings ARE open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.

Happy 4th of July!

Just a reminder to all – Shawnee’s Tidy Town is this Saturday, May 7th. For more information on Tidy Town, please click here.

We haven’t done a social event in quite awhile here at Oakmont. We are tentatively planning an event sometime in June. We need ideas! So far, we’re thinking about reserving Garret Park and making s’mores for everyone. If you have an idea for a fun event or something you’d like to see us do, please let us know! Leave us a comment here, or email the HOA at OakmontHomesAssociation@gmail.com. We welcome any and all input.

News

autumn

The Oakmont HOA held a meeting on October 22nd.  Among the topics discussed were the lights at the entrance.  As many of you may have noticed, our lighting has been out for about 2 years due to vandalism.  We tried to repair the lights several times and each time the lights were damaged again.  Each repair was between $1000 and $1500.  Permanent repairs to the lighting at the entrance will be completed before the end of the year.  We ask that everyone be diligent in reporting any suspicious behavior around the entrance to avoid any more vandalism.

We will also be planting new trees along Monticello.  This is an ongoing process.  We add trees as the budget allows.  Fingers crossed that our sprinkler system withstood the new cable being run down Monticello.  Spring will tell.

community-service-clip-art-12We will be having a neighborhood middle-school student getting some Community Service hours by helping clean up our neighborhood along Monticello.  Thank you for your help in keeping our neighborhood looking nice.
